All lanes of State Route 164 were closed for several hours Tuesday night, Jan. 6, near SE 380th Place after a collision between two vehicles left four people injured, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) and the Washington State Patrol (WSP).
Drugs or alcohol were determined to be a contributing factor in the crash, and the incident was investigated as a DUI collision.
WSDOT reported that the roadway was fully blocked near milepost 6 between Auburn and Enumclaw for approximately three and a half hours as emergency crews responded to the crash.
Here’s a description of what happened courtesy WSP:
- The collision occurred at about 7:33 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 6, on State Route 164 just west of 151st Avenue Southeast in King County.
- Vehicle 01 was traveling westbound on SR 164, while Vehicle 02 was traveling eastbound in the opposite direction.
- The westbound vehicle crossed the center line, then struck the eastbound vehicle head on.
- Two vehicles were involved, both of which were totaled.
- Four people were injured, and no fatalities were reported.
The 29-year-old driver of the westbound vehicle was injured and transported to Valley Medical Center. He was not wearing a seat belt and faces two counts of vehicular assault, WSP said. Two passengers in that vehicle were also injured and taken to MultiCare Auburn Medical Center. A third passenger was not injured. None of the occupants in the westbound vehicle were wearing seat belts, the patrol said.
The 80-year-old driver of the eastbound vehicle was injured and transported to MultiCare Auburn Medical Center. She was wearing a seat belt, according to the patrol.
No fatalities were reported.
Emergency crews cleared the scene after the roadway closure, and traffic later resumed.
