VRFA Blotter: crews handle residential & brush fires, bear spray incident, medical calls & more

Here are 911 Calls for Service responded to by the Valley Regional Fire Authority (VRFA) from Aug. 3–9, 2026:

• Residential Fire (Auburn): On Monday, August 3rd, VRFA firefighters responded to reports of a possible basement fire. Crews arrived to find the residents and their dog safely outside and smoke filling the home. Firefighters entered the residence, located a fire in the basement, and quickly extinguished it. Crews then used ventilation fans to clear smoke from the home. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
• Brush Fire (Auburn): On Tuesday, August 4th, VRFA firefighters responded to reports of a grass fire along a local roadway. Crews arrived to find a brush fire approximately 20 feet by 20 feet, about 50 feet from the roadway. Firefighters used water and wildland firefighting equipment to extinguish the fire and thoroughly overhauled the area to prevent rekindling. The cause of the fire was undetermined.
• Structure Fire (Auburn): On Wednesday, August 5th, VRFA firefighters, along with South King Fire & Rescue and Puget Sound Regional Fire Authority, responded to reports of a residential structure fire on the West Hill of Auburn. Crews worked quickly to extinguish the fire and search the residence to confirm all occupants were safely out of the home. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
• Aid Call (Auburn): On Thursday, August 6th, VRFA firefighters responded to an adult patient who sustained a facial injury after being assaulted while working at a residential care facility. Firefighters evaluated the patient on scene. The patient declined transport and remained at work, with plans to seek additional medical care if needed. Auburn Police secured the scene and remained with the patient.
• Aid Call (Pacific): On Friday, August 7th, VRFA firefighters responded to an elderly patient who had fallen at home. Firefighters evaluated the patient for facial and shoulder injuries before the patient was transported by private ambulance to MultiCare Auburn Medical Center for further care.
• Aid Call (Lakeland Hills): On Saturday, August 8th, VRFA firefighters responded to an elderly patient experiencing a mental health crisis. Firefighters evaluated and treated the patient on scene before the patient was transported by private ambulance to MultiCare Auburn Medical Center for further care.
• Aid Call (Auburn): On Sunday, August 9th, VRFA firefighters responded to a juvenile patient who accidentally discharged bear spray inside an apartment. The patient was the primary person affected by the spray, and eight additional occupants were assisted out of the unit while firefighters ventilated the apartment. Crews provided initial care and decontaminated the patient with mild soap and water. The patient did not require transport and remained at home with family.
