The King County Medical Examiner’s Office has identified Rene Jahziel Munoz-Zacapu, 33, as the Tacoma man killed in a three vehicle crash on southbound SR 167 in Auburn early Friday, Oct. 30.

Munoz-Zacapu died from multiple blunt force injuries, and his death was ruled an accident, according to coroners. The Washington State Patrol is investigating the collision.

As we previously reported, the tragic crash occurred about 1:39 a.m. Friday morning on SR 167 just north of SR 18 and blocked the roadway for approximately five hours and 16 minutes.

Troopers said Munoz-Zacapu was driving a 2007 Scion when he lost control, struck the left concrete barrier and stopped in the second lane from the left. Investigators believe he then got out of the car.

A southbound Tesla struck both the Scion and Munoz-Zacapu, according to the State Patrol. He was then struck by a Toyota Tacoma pickup and sadly died at the scene.

The Tesla’s driver, a 44-year-old Roy man, was injured and taken to Valley Medical Center, troopers said. The pickup’s driver, a 48-year-old Graham man, was not injured.

The State Patrol’s initial report listed DUI as the cause of the collision and listed vehicular homicide, hit-and-run and DUI offenses for the Tesla’s driver. The report did not establish whether prosecutors had filed charges.

Everyone at South King Media extends their deepest sympathies to all who knew and loved Rene Jahziel.
