A suspect was arrested after an early morning shooting on Tuesday, July 28 near 6th Street SE and Auburn Way South (map below), according to the Auburn Police Department.
Officers responded at about 3 a.m. after a bystander reported an altercation between two vehicles. One vehicle fired a round at the other before both vehicles fled the area at high speeds, police said.
While officers investigated the scene, additional officers responded to MultiCare Auburn Medical Center after receiving a report of a gunshot victim connected to the incident, according to police.
Auburn officers reviewed traffic camera footage and used Automated License Plate Reader (ALPR) technology to identify the vehicles involved, police said. Investigators determined through the ALPR system that the suspect vehicle had last been seen in a neighboring jurisdiction.
Further investigation led detectives to an address in that jurisdiction, where the suspect was located and taken into custody without incident, police said.
“The use of ALPR technology played a critical role in identifying the suspect vehicle and led directly to an arrest in this case,” Auburn police said in a statement.
“Technology, teamwork, and good police work continue to help keep our community safe,” police added.
