Washington State Patrol seeking witnesses to shooting during road rage incident on southbound I-5

Washington State Patrol (WSP) detectives are seeking witnesses after a driver reported being shot at last Sunday during a road rage incident that began on eastbound SR 518 and continued onto southbound I-5.

Police said that communications received a 911 call at about 4:50 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 23 from a person who said another driver had shot at them on southbound I-5.

Troopers later contacted the victim and found that a bullet had pierced the front passenger door of the victim’s black Ford Raptor and lodged in the passenger seat, WSP said.

WSP said the incident began on eastbound SR 518 to southbound I-5. The suspect, who was driving a Kia Spectra, continued driving aggressively before firing one shot near southbound I-5 and South 216th Street (map below), according to WSP.

The driver of the suspect vehicle was described as a Black man, with a Black woman in the passenger seat, WSP said. The suspect continued southbound on I-5 at a high rate of speed.

Detectives are asking anyone who witnessed the shooting or has information to email Detective Ford at [email protected].
