A suspect was arrested and a stolen vehicle recovered on Saturday, April 4 after an attempted traffic stop in Auburn, according to the Auburn Police Department.
Officers were alerted to the vehicle after it was detected by Flock Safety automated license plate reader technology as it traveled through the city, allowing an officer to locate it in the area, police said.
When an officer attempted a traffic stop, the driver initially complied but then attempted to flee, prompting officers to take action to safely stop the vehicle, according to police.
The vehicle was disabled and contained at an intersection with the assistance of multiple responding officers. Police said the driver refused repeated commands to exit the vehicle, and after additional warnings, less lethal tools were used. The driver was then taken into custody without further incident.
A passenger in the vehicle complied with commands and was detained before being released, police said.
The investigation confirmed the vehicle had been reported stolen out of a neighboring jurisdiction, and the driver did not have permission to possess it, according to police. The suspect was booked into jail on charges including possession of a stolen vehicle and attempting to elude police.
Police said the case has been forwarded to detectives for further review.
