Auburn Police say Automated License Plate Reader (ALPR) technology played a critical role in identifying suspects and making an arrest following a shooting investigation that began in May.
Police said that officers responded on May 24 to a reported shooting and immediately began processing the scene and searching for evidence.
Investigators recovered two spent 9 mm shell casings near the front porch of a home and conducted an extensive neighborhood canvass.
As part of the investigation, an Auburn police sergeant observed a vehicle matching the suspect description at the intersection of 17th Street SE and A Street SE about one minute after the 911 call was received. Using the department’s Automated License Plate Reader system, officers tracked the vehicle as it traveled south through Auburn and ultimately obtained its license plate information.
Police said the use of the technology directly led to identifying the suspects and making an arrest in the case.
“Technology, teamwork, and good police work continue to help keep our community safe,” the Auburn Police Department said in a statement.
The department did not release information about the suspect, the person arrested or any potential charges.
