A fatal traffic collision involving a motorcycle and a car occurred Tuesday afternoon, Oct. 1, 2024 on southbound SR 167, just north of SR 18, leaving a Shoreline man dead, with the freeway blocked for over three hours.
According to the Washington State Patrol’s incident report, the crash happened at approximately 2:12 p.m. when a motorcycle and a Ford Fiesta collided. The motorcyclist, a 66-year-old man from Shoreline, lost control of his vehicle while entering SR 167 southbound from westbound SR 18 in the first lane. His motorcycle then collided with the car, which was traveling southbound in the second lane.
The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. He was wearing a USDOT-compliant helmet at the time of the crash. His name has not yet been released, pending notification of next of kin.
The driver of the car, identified as a 29-year-old man from Auburn, was not injured and was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident.
The roadway remained blocked for three hours and 16 minutes as authorities conducted their investigation and cleared the scene. Traffic backed up for miles as commuters were diverted from the area.
The cause of the accident is still under investigation, but the Washington State Patrol has confirmed that drugs or alcohol were not factors in the crash.
Both vehicles sustained reportable damage and were removed by Rick’s Towing. The motorcycle involved in the crash was identified as a 2012 Harley-Davidson FLHX, and the car was a 2013 Ford Fiesta sedan.
