VRFA Blotter: apartment fire, cardiac arrest, vehicle accidents, shooting & more

Here are 911 Calls for Service responded to by the Valley Regional Fire Authority (VRFA) from Nov. 11–Nov. 17, 2024:

  • Minor Fire: (Auburn) On Monday, November 11th at 7:37 a.m., VRFA firefighters responded to a report of a minor fire in a fourplex. Upon arrival, crews observed light smoke coming from the apartment and assisted two residents in safely exiting the unit. Firefighters conducted a thorough search, ventilation, and air monitoring to ensure the apartment was safe. The Red Cross was notified to provide assistance to the displaced residents.
  • Motor Vehicle Accident: (Pacific) On Tuesday, November 12th at 8:52 a.m., VRFA firefighters responded to a two-vehicle collision on northbound SR167. Upon arrival, crews found both vehicles on the right shoulder with minor damage. Firefighters evaluated the occupants, who declined further treatment and remained at the scene.
  • Aid Call: (Auburn) On Wednesday, November 13th, at 4:55 p.m., VRFA firefighters responded to a report of an adult male in cardiac arrest. Firefighters arrived to find the patient, who was wheelchair-bound, pulseless and immediately initiated CPR. King County Medic One paramedics arrived and provided advanced life support, including IV therapies, EKG monitoring, and intubation. The patient responded to treatment with a return of pulses and respirations and was prepared for transport. During transport preparations, the patient experienced another cardiac arrest, and CPR was resumed. Additional IV therapies restored the patient’s pulse, and he was transported to MultiCare Auburn Medical Center by King County Medic One paramedics with two VRFA firefighters assisting.
  • Vehicle Accident: (Auburn) On Thursday, November 14th, at 8:45 a.m., VRFA firefighters responded to assist a driver who had driven off the highway at northbound Hwy 167. Firefighters confirmed the driver was uninjured and left them in the care of the Washington State Patrol.
  • Motor Vehicle Accident: (Auburn) On Friday, November 15th, at 4:43 p.m., VRFA firefighters responded to a six-car collision on westbound Highway 18. Firefighters arrived to find six individuals with varying injuries. Crews quickly secured the scene to ensure a safe operation while additional resources focused on patient care. One individual sustained more serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital by ambulance. The scene was turned over to the Washington State Patrol for investigation.
  • Aid Call: (Auburn) On Saturday, November 16th, at 12:37 p.m., VRFA firefighters responded to a report of three workers who became ill from possible exposure to an unknown substance at a hotel. Firefighters treated the patients and, with the assistance of HazMat technicians, conducted air monitoring and product sampling to confirm no additional hazards were present for guests or employees.
  • Shooting: (Auburn) On Sunday, November 17th, at 9:12 p.m., VRFA firefighters responded to reports of an adult male who had been shot in the leg outside a local business. VRFA personnel, along with King County Medic One paramedics, evaluated and treated the patient for multiple gunshot wounds. The patient was transported to Harborview Medical Center by King County Medic One for further care.
