Auburn roads remain closed as White River holds at flood levels

Road closures across Auburn remained in place on Friday, Dec. 19 as the White River continued to rise under planned increased outflows, city officials said, though no localized flooding is expected in the city.

According to the City of Auburn and Auburn Police, the White River is hovering near 10,000 cubic feet per second, a level classified as Flood Phase 4, and is expected to remain there throughout the weekend. The increased flow follows adjustments by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers after earlier reductions tied to a breach in the Pacific levee. Officials said river levels could begin to ease Monday or Tuesday.

City officials said some nearby communities may experience storm system backflow related to river discharge. Residents who observe backflow are asked to submit a service request through the See Click Fix app.

Additional information is available through the city’s online service request portal here.

The city said it will continue to post updates on its flood information page at auburnwa.gov/flood, with another update expected later Friday morning or early afternoon.
