The Auburn Community and Event Center on Sunday, Dec. 14, 2025 was activated as an emergency shelter to support residents affected by flooding, prompting the cancellation of programs and activities at the facility, according to the City of Auburn.
City officials said the Community and Event Center will remain closed for regular programs until further notice while it serves as a shelter. The Fitness Center and drop in childcare are closed, and all scheduled activities at the facility are canceled on Monday, Dec. 15.
Canceled activities include the indoor playground, pickleball, group fitness classes and the REC Teen Center, the city said.
The City of Auburn Parks Department will remain open regular hours on Monday from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Officials said all parks programs taking place at locations other than the Auburn Community and Event Center will continue as scheduled.
The activation comes as flooding impacts a large part of the region, affecting residents across South King County, including Auburn and neighboring communities.
The city directed residents to its flood information webpage for updates and resources related to flooding conditions.
