Auburn Police Officers Mbaye and Hull were awarded the Auburn Police Department Medal for Life Saving Recognition this week for their actions during a January medical emergency that officials say resulted in a life being saved.
Police said the officers responded Jan. 16, 2026, at 9:12 a.m. to a report of CPR in progress at a 7 Eleven store. A caller reported a male slumped over near the front of a vehicle and began CPR after believing the man was in cardiac arrest. The Valley Regional Fire Authority was also dispatched.
The department said Officers Mbaye and Hull arrived in under one minute from the first officer being dispatched. One officer began chest compressions while the other retrieved an automated external defibrillator from a patrol vehicle. The officers administered Narcan and cut away the patient’s clothing to provide further medical intervention while continuing lifesaving efforts and communicating with bystanders and responding units.
Valley Regional Fire Authority (VRFA) and King County Medic One later arrived and took over lifesaving measures before transporting the patient to a hospital.
In a letter detailing the incident, a VRFA captain wrote:
“Their swift and decisive actions had a direct and positive impact, ultimately contributing to saving the patient’s life. These efforts went above and beyond the normal call of duty for law enforcement. There is no doubt that the quick and effective response by Officers Hull and Mbaye resulted in a life saved.”
The letter awarding the medal states:
“Without your quick response, ability to remain calm, and training, it is unlikely the patient would have survived. You displayed great professionalism and competence during this incident.”
The Medal for Life Saving Recognition is awarded by the Auburn Police Department to officers whose actions directly contribute to saving a life, according to the department.
