Neely Mansion to showcase century of kimono history at free exhibit on Saturday, July 25

The Neely Mansion in Auburn will host “100 Years of Kimonos,” a free public exhibit highlighting Japanese fashion and history on Saturday, July 25, from Noon to 4 p.m., according to the Neely Mansion.

The exhibit will feature a variety of kimonos dating from the 1860s through the 1960s. Collector and amateur historian Devin Dondero will discuss the collection and the history behind the garments, many of which reflect the eras in which they were created.

Dondero also will present a brief kimono dressing demonstration at 1 p.m.

In addition to the exhibit, visitors can tour the historic Neely Mansion and its 1930 Japanese bathhouse. According to the Neely Mansion, the bathhouse was built by one of the two Japanese farming families that leased the property for more than 20 years.

Admission is complimentary, although donations are appreciated.

The event will be held at the Neely Mansion, 12303 S.E. Auburn Black Diamond Road in Auburn, east of the Highway 18 Auburn Black Diamond Road exit:
