A social media post allegedly containing threats against Rainier Middle School was shared from one student to another began Sunday afternoon. This post began circulating among other students, and parents, throughout the day. Auburn Police and Auburn School District officials were quickly notified of the social media threat and began investigating.
Auburn Police Commander Mike Hirman confirmed Sunday that Auburn Police were aware of the threat. After investigating the post, police determined there was no credible threat. As with the threat earlier this year at Auburn High School, there will be an increased police presence at Rainier Middle School out of an abundance of caution.
A letter was sent out to Rainier Middle School parents and staff members by the administration Sunday evening. The letter iterates the lack of a credible threat and reminds that at any time a student, staff or parent feels there is a threat of any kind they have multiple options to report it.
