The Auburn Police Department is accepting applications for its upcoming Citizen’s Academy, a free 12-week program that starts Mar. 3, designed to give community members an inside look at local law enforcement operations.
According to the Auburn Police Department, the application deadline is Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2026.
The first class will be held on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, with classes held once a week for approximately 12 weeks from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Auburn Police Department (map below).
The program is FREE.
Class Topics include:
- Patrol Operations
- Introduction to Investigations (Both Property Crimes and Persons Crimes)
- Bicycle Unit
- DUI/Traffic Enforcement
- Search and Seizure case law
- SWAT operations
- Hostage Negotiations
- Police Response to Resistance(use of force)
- Chaplains and Officer Wellness programs
- Animal Control
- Public Information Office
- K9 training and deployments
- Vehicle Pursuits
- Community Engagement Programs
- Special Investigations Unit (Drug crimes, gun crimes, high violent offenders)
- Some topics may change based on personnel available to teach throughout the program.
“We encourage all of your questions and seek to provide an environment where the community can become not only better engaged with our agency but more knowledgeable about the inner workings of law enforcement,” organizers said. “There is a lot going on these days and public education and collaboration is a continued desire of the Auburn Police Department.”
Participants who attend at least eight classes will be scheduled for a ride-along with an officer based on availability.
Attendees must participate in at least nine of the 12 sessions in order to graduate.
