The Auburn School District informed Auburn High School parents the school would have increased police presence Wednesday, October 16th, due to an unsubstantiated threat. According to the email sent from the district, this increase in police presence was “out of an abundance of caution.”
Auburn Police Commander Mike Hirman confirmed the anonymous threat came through a safe schools app. “There does not appear to be any thing or any person specifically threatened,” said Hirman.
SAT and PSAT testing was scheduled for Wednesday. Comments on social media speculated the threat may have been a means to have the testing canceled. While the message made no direct reference to the SAT testing, Hirman shared the message said to “cancel that shit.”
Testing was not canceled and the school day transpired without incident.
Hirman confirmed the only school referenced in the message was Auburn High School. Under the advisement of Auburn Police, the nature of the threat has not been released.
