A unique showcase of Japanese culture and fashion history will be on display Saturday, June 28, 2025, as the Neely Mansion Association presents a special one-day exhibit of kimonos dating from the 1870s to the 1960s.
The “Japanese Kimono Exhibit,” hosted from Noon to 4 p.m. at the historic mansion at 12303 SE Auburn-Black Diamond Road (map below), will feature dozens of traditional garments, each reflecting the era in which it was created.
Collector and amateur historian Devin Dondero will lead the presentation, offering insights into the intricate artistry and cultural significance of the kimonos on display.
The event also includes guided tours of the restored Neely Mansion and its 1930s Japanese bathhouse, originally built by one of the Japanese tenant families who lived and worked on the property.
Admission is free, and donations are encouraged to support the ongoing preservation of the site.
The exhibit is part of the Neely Mansion Association’s mission to honor and preserve the multicultural stories of the families who shaped the region’s rural history.
