Auburn Valley Humane Society (AVHS) took in 27 cats and kittens this week after a large scale rescue effort that brought 126 animals into care through multiple agencies and rescue partners, according to the shelter.

The rescue occurred Wednesday, Jan. 7 and involved teams who photographed and evaluated each animal, with several requiring immediate medical attention, the shelter said.

“Situations like this are complex and fast-moving, and truly take a village,” AVHS said. “Our team worked tirelessly assessing needs and administering vaccines, dewormer and flea meds and we simply cannot thank them enough.”

Rescue organizations from across the region shared responsibility for long term care, fostering and adoption support, according to AVHS.

The shelter said the 27 cats it received will be placed into foster care as needed, microchipped and spayed or neutered before being adopted into permanent homes.

Auburn Valley Humane Society said community members responded quickly with donations, supplies and offers to help, which supported the rapid response required for a rescue of this size.

“Thank you for showing up—for the cats, for the rescuers, and for one another,” organizers said. “This rescue is a powerful reminder that protecting animals is always a shared effort.”

Shelter Seeking Donations and Fostering

The shelter is asking for continued community support through donations and fostering. Supplies can be donated through the shelter’s Amazon wishlist at amzn.to/3Nc15Sp, dropped off during regular business hours or shipped directly to the shelter. Additional donation information is available at auburnvalleyhs.org/donate, and foster applications can be found at auburnvalleyhs.org/fostering.
