National Night Out returns to Auburn on Tuesday, Aug. 1, 2023, marking an important night of community-building, communal partnerships, and neighborhood camaraderie across the city.

“National Night Out is one of the most significant days of the year for residents who want to feel more connected and a part of the city they live in,” said Chris Lovings, the City of Auburn’s Neighborhood Programs Coordinator and Auburn’s National Night Out manager. “I truly believe this event makes our city a more caring and welcoming place to live.”

National Night Out takes place each year on the first Tuesday in August in cities and communities across the nation. This year’s occurrence is on Tuesday, August 1, and it’s noteworthy – National Night Out is celebrating its 40th anniversary.

“Anytime we have a chance to meet and interact with the community is great.” said Auburn Mayor Nancy Backus. “National Night Out is the perfect opportunity for neighbors to reconnect and meet the people of Team Auburn who work for them in the city.”

Many communities throughout the city will be hosting a variety of special events such as block parties, cookouts, youth activities and visits from City of Auburn officials, staff, and police to get better acquainted with neighbors and promote a more connected Auburn.

How to Participate

If your neighborhood wishes to host an event, register online at auburnwa.gov/nno before Friday July 14 to receive promotional items such as postcard invitations, flyers, posters, and an event banner free of charge.

Events that register prior to the July 14 deadline can request a City of Auburn representative to make an appearance to meet community in your neighborhood and connect.

Auburn’s National Night Out is a part of a larger national effort to increase community connectedness and safety, linking elected officials and law enforcement with residents and neighbors under positive circumstances.
