A wayward goat’s roadside stroll ended safely on Friday, July 11, 2025, thanks to quick action by Auburn Animal Control Officer Ray Peckham – who now proudly adds “goat wrangler” to his list of duties.

The unusual incident unfolded along West Valley Highway, where the goat was spotted casually walking down the road.

Auburn Police shared the light-hearted rescue on social media (see below), noting Officer Peckham “swooped in and safely returned him home.”

The department did not disclose where the goat had come from, but confirmed the animal was reunited with its owner without incident.

In a tweet that quickly garnered community smiles, the Auburn Police Department wrote:

On July 11, 2025, Auburn Animal Control Officer Ray Peckham officially added ‘Goat Wrangler’ to his résumé.

No injuries were reported, and traffic was not significantly disrupted — a resolution that was, all things considered, not baa-aaaad at all.
