Valley Regional Fire Authority (VRFA) were on scene at the Auburn Public Storage, located at 8 16th St. NW. The call for service came on Sunday, November 25th, at 5:35pm. VRFA Public Information Officer Kimberly Terhune confirmed: “three VRFA engines, two ladder trucks (Puget Sound Fire and South King Fire), two aid cars, King County Medic One, and a rehab unit from KCFD 23 worked at the fire scene.”
Responding units arrived on scene quickly. Crews worked aggressively and effectively to attack and put out the fire. “Fires in these type of occupancies can grow rapidly due to the material that might be in them. Our crews did a great job with stopping the fire spread,” said Ryan Chadwick, VRFA Public Information Officer.
The fire was primarily contained to one storage unit. The other damage was mainly in the two units on either side of the fire unit. Crews forced open approximately eight to ten other units that were in close proximity to the fire. Firefighters needed to confirm no fire, or people were inside the units.
Only the three damaged units were exposed to fire and foam when containing the fire. A full damage report will be available after investigators are able to better survey the scene in daylight.
There were no reported injuries.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by a Fire Inspector and is currently undetermined. “During [their] investigation, Auburn Police and an emergency service contractor will help to secure the scene and the belongings in the storage units,” said Chadwick.
