VRFA Blotter: Nail shot into foot, elevator rescue, pedestrian vs vehicle & more

Here are 911 Calls for Service responded to by the Valley Regional Fire Authority (VRFA) from Nov. 25–Dec. 1, 2024:

  • Aid Call: (Auburn) On Monday, November 25th, at 8:11 a.m., VRFA firefighters responded to assist an adult male who accidentally shot a nail into his foot with a nail gun. Firefighters provided initial treatment, and the patient was transported to Valley Medical Center by private ambulance for further care.
  • Service Call: (Auburn) On Tuesday, November 26th, at 10:15 a.m., VRFA firefighters assisted the Auburn Police Department and King County Sheriff’s Office with the recovery of potential evidence. Firefighters set up the ladder truck aerial to provide the reach necessary for law enforcement to retrieve the item.
  • Elevator Rescue: (South Auburn) On Wednesday, November 27th, at 5:35 p.m., VRFA firefighters responded to a report of individuals stuck in an elevator. Upon arrival, firefighters confirmed that the occupants were uninjured. They secured the area and remained on scene until an elevator technician arrived to mechanically move the elevator, allowing the occupants to safely exit.
  • Motor Vehicle Accident: (Auburn) On Thursday, November 28th, at 11:45 p.m., VRFA firefighters responded to a three-car collision on Highway 167. Upon arrival, firefighters found two vehicles on the left side of the road and a third in the median with moderate damage. One female patient, who sustained moderate injuries, was evaluated by firefighters and transported to MultiCare Auburn Medical Center by a VRFA aid unit.
  • Residential Fire: (Algona) On Friday, November 29th, at 10:17 a.m., VRFA firefighters responded to a report of a fire in a residence. While en route, the reporting party requested cancellation, stating they had extinguished the fire. One crew continued to the scene and determined the fire started when an ember fell from a wood stove onto paper on the floor. Crews confirmed the fire was completely out and no further hazards were present.
  • Vehicle vs. Pedestrian: (Auburn) On Saturday, November 30th, at 12:34 p.m., VRFA firefighters responded to a young male who had been struck by a pickup truck while riding his bicycle. The child was thrown approximately 40 feet from the crosswalk. Firefighters and King County Medic One paramedics treated the patient on the scene for serious injuries. The patient was transported to Harborview Medical Center by paramedics for further care.
  • Motor Vehicle Accident: (Auburn) On Sunday, December 1st, at 2:17 p.m., VRFA firefighters responded to reports of a two-car accident on Auburn Way South. On scene, VRFA personnel assessed three individuals and treated one patient for minor injuries. The patient was transported to a local hospital by private ambulance.
  • Residential Fire: (Ravensdale) On Sunday, December 1st, at 10:57 a.m., VRFA firefighters responded to a residential fire alongside Puget Sound Fire Authority. VRFA personnel responded with a tender and one fire engine, where they were assigned to a “Water Division.” They ensured an uninterrupted water supply to apparatus on scene, as the area has limited fire hydrants and relies on such resources for a safe operation.
