VRFA Blotter: July 13-19, 2020

Below are just a few of the calls the Valley Regional Fire Authority responded to for the week of July 13-19, 2020. VRFA firefighters responded to a total of 260 calls for service during this week.  192 were aid calls, 16 were fire calls, and 52 were categorized as other. Other calls include water rescues, Haz Mat calls and ladder requests.

Below are just a few of the calls VRFA crews responded to.

911 – Requests for Service

• Aid Call: (Auburn) On Monday, July 13 at 7:48 p.m., firefighters and paramedics assisted a male
  patient complaining of multiple traumatic injuries. The man was pinned under a vehicle that he
  was working on when his lifting jack failed. Airlift Northwest transported the patient to Harborview
  Medical Center.
• Brush Fire: (Pacific) On Tuesday, July 14 at 6:52 p.m. firefighters were dispatched to a grass fire
  along the railroad tracks. Upon arrival, firefighters found a 3’x15’ fire that was rapidly spreading,
  but there were no exposures. The fire was quickly extinguished.
• Aid Call: (Lakeland Hills) On Wednesday, July 15 at 4:53 p.m., firefighters responded, with King
  County Medic One paramedics, to a young child who fell from a second-story window. The
  patient was evaluated on scene and transported to Harborview Medical Center by the
  paramedics.
• Aid Call: (Auburn) On Wednesday, July 15 at 7:15 p.m., firefighters responded to an adult female
  that had struck a school sign and then a parked car. The patient was found unconscious in her
  vehicle by Auburn Police Department. She was administered Narcan by APD and evaluated by
  VRFA personnel and King County Medic One. The patient was transported to MultiCare Auburn
  Medical Center via private ambulance for further treatment.
• Aid Call: (Auburn) On Thursday, July 16 at 1:44 p.m., firefighters assisted a young male that fell
  out of a second-story window. The patient did not complain of any obvious injuries but was
  transported to MultiCare Auburn Medical Center as a precaution.
• Illegal Burn: On Friday, July 17 at 1:56 p.m., firefighters were called to investigate an illegal burn.

  

  VRFA personnel arrived to find a resident burning construction debris in their backyard. He was
  educated on outdoor burning regulations and asked to extinguish his fire.
• Residential House Fire: (Pacific) On Saturday, July 18, at 1:17 p.m., multiple firefighters
  responded to a well-involved residential house fire. An aggressive attack and search was made
  on the fire. All occupants evacuated the home safely prior to FD arrival. The cause of the fire was
  determined to be cooking.
• Motor Vehicle Accident: (Auburn) On Sunday, July 19, at 12:27 a.m., firefighters responded to a
  rollover motor vehicle accident on eastbound SR 18 just west of Auburn Way S. Firefighters
  arrived to find a single vehicle on its roof with no passengers inside. A witness stated they saw
  individuals getting into a car and leaving the scene as they came upon the accident. VRFA
  personnel provided scene safety and blocking for Washington State Patrol.
• Mobile Home Fire: (South Auburn) On Sunday, July 19 at 4:27 p.m., firefighters responded to a
  fire in a mobile home. The fire was located under the floor in the crawl space. All residents were
  able to safely evacuate due to working smoke detectors throughout the home.

Fire Investigations:

• On Wednesday, July 15, an accidental fire occurred in the 30400 block of 132nd Ave SE, in the
  City of Auburn. The fire began in the engine/battery compartment of a newly received
  motorhome. The vehicle sustained significant damage estimated at $112,500.
• On Saturday, July 18, an accidental fire occurred in the 100 block of 4th Ave SW in the City of
  Pacific. The fire was a result of unattended cook and the single-family residence sustained
  heavy fire damage in the structure and overhead. The building is a total loss at approximately
  $90,000.
• On Sunday, July 19, an undetermined fire occurred in the 3500 block of Auburn Way S. in the
  City of Auburn. The fire began in the crawlspace of a mobile home. The concealed fire was
  eventually located and extinguished with very little damage to the interior of the structure.
  Dollar loss is estimated at $15,000.
