VRFA Blotter: Collisions, cooking fire, trapped in elevator & more

Here are 911 Calls for Service responded to by the Valley Regional Fire Authority (VRFA) from Feb. 19–Feb. 25, 2024:

  • Minor Fire: (Auburn) On Monday, February 19th at 12:37 a.m., VRFA firefighters responded to a minor fire. Upon arrival, they encountered a small cooking fire on the stove. A neighbor had effectively used a fire extinguisher to control the fire. Using a thermal imaging camera, firefighters confirmed no further fire spread and proceeded to ventilate the residence.
  • Aid Call: (Auburn) On Tuesday, February 20th, at 12:14 p.m., VRFA firefighters responded to a call involving an adult female trapped in a malfunctioning elevator. Upon arrival, firefighters established verbal contact with the occupant and identified the elevator’s mechanical room for troubleshooting. With the assistance of an elevator service technician, the firefighters gained access to the occupant. Within minutes, the individual was safely released, and no medical concerns were reported.
  • Motor Vehicle Collision: (Lea Hill) On Wednesday, February 21st, at 1:38 p.m., VRFA firefighters responded to a reported motor vehicle collision. Upon arrival, crews discovered a two-vehicle accident with two occupants sustaining minor injuries. Firefighters conducted evaluations, and one of the injured individuals was transported to MultiCare Auburn Medical Center by a VRFA aid car.
  • Motor Vehicle Collision: (Auburn) On Thursday, February 22nd at 7:41 a.m., VRFA firefighters responded to a motor vehicle collision. Upon arrival, they found a three-vehicle collision with two occupants sustaining minor injuries. Firefighters conducted evaluations; one individual was transported to MultiCare Auburn Medical Center via private ambulance for further care.
  • Aid Call: (Auburn) On Friday, February 23rd at 12:02 p.m., VRFA firefighters responded to an individual who had accidentally injured his finger while cutting wood in his backyard with an axe. Firefighters provided immediate care by bandaging the patient’s hand, a private ambulance transported him to Valley Medical Center for further medical attention.
  • Aid Call: (Algona) On Saturday, February 24th at 4:55 p.m., VRFA firefighters responded to an adult female experiencing shortness of breath. After evaluating the patient, the firefighters respected the patient’s request and left her at home.
  • Motor Vehicle Collision: (Auburn) On Sunday, February 25th at 9:26 p.m., VRFA firefighters responded to a two-car collision on the Auburn-Kent border. VRFA and Puget Sound Regional Fire Authority Firefighters evaluated two uninjured patients; both drivers declined further aid and were left in the care of Auburn Police.
