VIDEO: Auburn Police investigating Sunday morning shooting ambush

Auburn Police are investigating a shooting that took place early Sunday morning, July 28, 2024, which appears to have been a planned ambush.

Officers responded to the 2900 block of M Street SE (map below) around 6:40 a.m. Sunday morning, following reports of gunfire.

Upon arrival, officers discovered nearly 100 shell casings just south of the intersection.

Video footage shows four masked suspects approaching a group of five people exiting a Metro bus. The suspects brandished handguns and began shooting at the group. One of the victims, who was also armed, returned fire as they fled.

Police believe several suspects were using illegally modified pistols converted to fully automatic weapons. Four of the five victims, including three juveniles and one adult, sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

Auburn Police are urging anyone with information about the incident to contact the Auburn PD Tip Line at 253-288-7403.
