One subject is in custody Saturday afternoon, after a stand off at his home in Auburn.

Shortly after 1:00 pm Auburn police responded to a domestic disturbance call in the 1700 block of 4th St NE. Officers established probable cause for felony domestic violence for a male inside the home.

“The male refused to exit the residence and had his 20-month-old child with him,” states a post on the Auburn WA Police Department Facebook Page. “As the incident continued, shots were fired from inside the residence as officers surrounded it.”

Auburn Police Commander Dave Colglazier confirmed officers did not return fire.

Officers engaged with the male negotiating the safe release of the child. Uninjured, the child was returned to its mother.

VALLEY S.W.A.T. and negotiators responded to the scene.

After approximately an hour the male exited the home, unarmed, and surrendered to police. “A fire had been started inside the residence just prior to his surrender. VRFA crews responded and extinguished the fire,” states the updated Facebook post.

APD detectives will follow up on the incident as necessary.

Please note, as this is a domestic violence matter involving a small child and the male subject surrendered without incident, the Auburn Examiner will not provide further updates on this situation.
