Despite the efforts of first responders, the subject was pronounced dead at the scene. No officers were injured during the incident.

Six deputies involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative leave.

Detectives from VIIT are actively investigating the incident, with the Des Moines Police Department serving as the lead agency.

VIIT is a multi-agency team comprising investigators from seven South King County police departments: Auburn, Des Moines, Federal Way, Kent, Renton, Port of Seattle, and Tukwila. Due to the involvement of the King County Sheriff’s Office and Auburn Police in the incident, their departments are excluded from the investigation.
