VRFA Blotter: downed tree, water leak, vehicle fire, dryer fire & more

Here are 911 Calls for Service responded to by the Valley Regional Fire Authority (VRFA) from Mar. 9–Mar. 15, 2026:

  • Service Call (Auburn): On Monday, March 9th at 12:47 p.m., VRFA firefighters responded to reports of a smoke odor in a laundry room. Firefighters confirmed the odor was coming from the furnace and determined the unit required cleaning and maintenance. Crews turned off the furnace, and the homeowner will arrange for service.
  • Service Call (Auburn): On Tuesday, March 10th at 3:04 p.m., VRFA firefighters were conducting a hose drill in a neighborhood when they noticed water rushing from the garage of a nearby home. Upon investigation, firefighters discovered a residential sprinkler system had developed a significant leak. Crews contacted the homeowners, who were unaware of the issue, and assisted them in shutting off the water supply before returning to service.
  • Service Call (Auburn): On Wednesday, March 11th, VRFA firefighters responded to a downed tree blocking West Valley Highway following a wind event. Firefighters temporarily closed the roadway and removed the tree branches to clear the hazard. The City of Auburn Streets Department was notified to dispose of the remaining debris.
  • Car Fire (Auburn): On Thursday, March 12th at 3:30 p.m., VRFA firefighters responded to a two-vehicle collision on a local highway with one vehicle on fire. Crews arrived to find an unoccupied van fully involved in flames, while the driver was safely inside a Washington State Patrol vehicle. Firefighters extinguished the fire and evaluated those involved for injuries. No serious injuries were reported, and Washington State Patrol remained on scene to investigate.
  • Aid Call (Auburn): On Friday, March 13th at 8:55 a.m., VRFA firefighters responded to an adult female who had given birth while being driven to the hospital. Firefighters evaluated both mother and newborn on scene. King County Medic One paramedics transported them to a local hospital as a precaution.
  • Minor Fire (Auburn): On Saturday, March 14th at 7:54 p.m., VRFA firefighters responded to reports of smoke coming from the basement of a single-family residence. Firefighters arrived and learned from occupants that a dryer had caught fire, filling the home with smoke. Crews kept the fire contained to the dryer and ventilated the structure. No injuries were reported.
  • Motor Vehicle Accident (South Auburn): On Sunday, March 15th at 1:41 p.m., VRFA firefighters responded to a motor vehicle collision with a reported injury. Firefighters evaluated the driver, who had a bump to his forehead. The patient chose to be transported by private vehicle to a local hospital for further care.
