Below are just a few of the calls the Valley Regional Fire Authority responded to for the week of August 3-9, 2020. VRFA firefighters responded to a total of 294 calls for service during this week. 222 were aid calls, 18 were fire calls, and 54 were categorized as other. Other calls include water rescues, HazMat calls, and ladder requests.

Year to Date our Valley Professional Firefighters have responded to a total of 7,993 calls. This is a 4.1% decrease from 2019 (8,336 calls). Total aid calls in 2020 so far are 5,940 (-4.3% compared to 2019’s 6,204). The number of fire calls is down by 12.1%, with 2020 having 255 calls and 2019 having 290. The number of other calls is also down (2.4%), with 2020 currently at 1,798 calls compared to 2019’s 1,842.

VRFA’s Station 31 (1101 D St NE, Auburn, WA 98002) is a drop off location for the Auburn Public School Foundation school supply drive. ASD returns to school September 19th.

911 Calls for Service

• Brush Fire: (Auburn) On Monday, August 10 at 1:58 p.m., firefighters responded to a brush fire in the median on Highway 167. Crews quickly stopped the spread of the fire and then overhauled and soaked the area to ensure the fire was extinguished.

• Aid Call: (Auburn) On Tuesday August 11 firefighters responded to a 5-car motor vehicle accident. Firefighters found one injured patient that was trapped after being stuck by a dump truck – no other drivers were injured. The dump truck driver suffered brake fade while exiting Hwy 18. Firefighters quickly extricated the trapped patient and she was transported via AMR to MultiCare Auburn Medical Center for further treatment.

• Brush Fire: (Pacific) On Tuesday, August 11 at 3:04 p.m., firefighters responded to a brush fire in the SE section of the city. On scene, personnel found a 200 X 50 brush fire that was burning north towards Pacific City Park. VRFA personnel, along with firefighters from Puget Sound RFA, Renton RFA, and Mountain View Fire & Rescue worked for approx. 3 hours to extinguish the fire. The fire is currently under investigation by the Valley Regional Fire Authority investigator and there were no injuries reported to fire personnel.

• Shooting: (South Auburn) On Wednesday, August 12 at 9:14 p.m., firefighters treated an adult male with a gunshot wound to the upper chest. The patient was evaluated by firefighters and King County Medics and transported by Medics to Harborview Medical Center.

• Aid Call: (Pacific) On Friday, August 14 at 5:40 a.m., firefighters were called to investigate a body covered in blood laying up against a building. Firefighters arrived to find an adult male with an apparent gunshot wound to head. Firefighters left the scene to Pacific Police to conduct further investigation.

• Aid Call: (Lea Hill) On Friday, August 14 at 1:54 p.m., firefighters assisted a middle-aged female in cardiac arrest. Firefighters and King County Medics performed CPR who were able to get a return of the patient’s pulse. Medic 6 transported the patient to MultiCare Auburn Medical Center.

• Aid Call: (Auburn) On Saturday, August 15 at 9:15 p.m., firefighters and King County Medics responded to an adult male who had overdosed. The patient was treated on scene and transported to MultiCare Auburn Medical Center by VRFA aid car.

• Aid Call: (Auburn) On Sunday, August 16 at 1:38 p.m., firefighters responded to a female patient who was having seizures. The patient was evaluated on scene and transported to MultiCare Auburn Medical Center via Aid 332.

There were no investigations for this week.
