Get your appetites ready, because a variety of mouthwatering food trucks are hitting the streets of downtown Auburn this spring and summer.
On Tuesdays for lunchtime (11 a.m. to 2 p.m.) from April 29 through the end of August, all are invited to come down to City Hall Plaza (25 W. Main Street; map below), for a weekly lunch featuring an assortment of local vendors.
Take a short walk, grab a bite, and enjoy the sun – meet us downtown and enjoy all that Auburn has to offer at “Food Truck Tuesdays”.
“For nearly a decade, our residents have been asking for more – more events in downtown Auburn, more reasons to explore the city, and more lunchtime food options,” said Auburn Mayor Nancy Backus. “This event will give our residents and visitors a perfect excuse to venture out from their homes and offices and enjoy delicious food in the heart of downtown.”
Downtown Auburn features direct access to Sounder commuter rail, and a community that values unique retail, dining, craft experiences, and sustainable businesses. Auburn’s vibrant downtown and accessible location makes it a prime destination for regional visitors and a strategic hub for entrepreneurs looking to thrive.
This new food truck program is a result of a partnership between the City of Auburn and the Washington State Food Truck Association and is part of the new planning initiative called “Auburn is Creative” and aligns with Auburn’s strategic economic development goals by promoting the city’s ongoing support for small business, and showcasing how mobile food establishments can enliven the community and bring people together.
This pilot program allows a rotating variety of licensed, insured and (health & fire) permitted food trucks who are members of the WSFTA to utilize carefully selected public spaces. The WSFTA has been managing various food truck locations around the state and will manage each of these new Auburn event locations.
“Food trucks are an important source of economic opportunity for entrepreneurs of all types and from all backgrounds,” said Lori Johnson, Executive Director of the Washington State Food Truck Association. “Food trucks can enhance the culinary culture of cities, increase employment, enliven streets, and provide a wide variety of amazing and delicious food options in underserved areas. The best way to keep our public spaces safe and well utilized is to make them appealing to the public, and the public love food trucks.”
