The City of Auburn is searching for one special child to help kick off the holiday season by joining Santa to light the city’s Christmas tree at City Hall Plaza.
Officials said nominations are open for a deserving child between the ages of 5 and 9 to serve as Auburn’s official “tree lighter” at the annual celebration on Saturday, Dec. 6.
Nominations will be accepted until 5 p.m. on Nov. 6.
Mayor Nancy Backus will randomly select the child who will join Santa in flipping the switch to light the community tree.
The tree lighting event has become a signature holiday tradition for Auburn families, drawing residents from across south King County.
To submit a nomination, families can visit the city’s nomination page here.
