With the announcement of King County entering Phase 2, the Auburn Parks and Rec Department have provided an updated list of what facilities are open and available for use.
Auburn at Play in Phase 2
From Auburn Parks & Rec: The City of Auburn Parks, Arts & Recreation continues to take a phased approach to re-opening parks and outdoor recreation areas. On June 19, the state Department of Health approved King County’s application to move into Phase 2 of the State’s Safe Start Plan, which includes new guidance for recreation and fitness.
We are making every effort to align our operations in a way that is consistent with state guidance while adjusting our operations to ensure the safety of our staff, volunteers, and visitors.
We ask for your continued cooperation in adapting to and complying with the new recreation standards, such as limiting recreation activities to groups of 5 or fewer outside the household. It is clear that Auburn residents are eager to enjoy their parks and outdoors spaces, and we are striving to open additional facilities and allow programming as soon as we can do so safely and in compliance with the guidance for King County Public Health.
Please continue to practice physical distancing by staying 6 feet away from others. Before heading out, review our tips below to recreate responsibly to keep each other safe, so we can keep our parks and trails open.

Recreate Responsibly
We encourage park and trail users to recreate responsibly to keep each other safe and help keep parks and trails open. Do your part to help save lives and slow the spread of the virus!
We will continue to share the recreate responsibly message to park and trail visitors through on-site signs, social media sites, eblasts and the City website. We will continue to make informed operational decisions based upon the COVID-19 data and guidance from our public health experts.
If further COVID-19 concerns develop, we may close parks and trails with limited notice to protect public health.
Please follow these recommendations to recreate responsibly:
- DO NOT visit public spaces if you have symptoms or are not feeling well.
- Know before you go – Check the status of the place you want to visit.
If it is closed, don’t go. If it’s crowded, have a Plan B. - Practice physical distancing – Adventure in groups of 5 or fewer outside the household. Be prepared to cover your nose and mouth and give others space.
- Stay close to home – This is not the time to travel long distances to recreate. Many places are only open for day use and restrooms may still be closed.
- Play it safe – Slow down and choose lower-risk activities to reduce your risk of injury. Search and rescue operations and health care resources are both strained.
- Leave no trace – Respect parks, trails and communities and take all garbage with you, including disposable face masks and gloves.

Across all our communities, local parks, trails and open spaces have always served as places where people can find respite and seek peace and restoration. Please use them in a way that respects each other and public health guidance.
