Auburn City Councilmember Yolanda Trout has officially announced her candidacy for Mayor, aiming to build on her 11 years of public service with a platform centered on community engagement, public safety, and economic revitalization.
Trout will be vying to replace incumbent Mayor Nancy Backus in the 2025 election(s).
The deadline to file for office is Friday, May 9, 2025, and the primary and general election dates for 2025 are:
- Primary election: Aug. 5, 2025
- General election: Nov. 4, 2025
“My years on the council have given me invaluable insight into the challenges and opportunities facing our community,” Trout said in her campaign announcement. “I am running for Mayor because I believe in Auburn’s potential to grow and thrive. Together, we can create a brighter future for everyone.”
Trout, who has served on the Auburn City Council since 2014, plans to focus on increasing transparency in city government, strengthening public safety, and fostering economic growth, particularly in Auburn’s downtown core. She also aims to expand youth leadership programs and improve collaboration with residents through town halls and public forums.
Beyond her tenure in Auburn, Trout has served on national boards, including the National League of Cities and the Hispanic Elected Local Officials Board, and has worked on initiatives supporting mental health services, infrastructure improvements, and law enforcement partnerships.

A Track Record of Success
As a council member, Trout has championed critical initiatives, including improving mental
health services, enhancing public safety, and revitalizing infrastructure. She has also served on committees addressing regional law and justice, water quality, youth and family services and the “R.E.A.D.Y.” Program.
Her leadership extends beyond Auburn, with roles on national boards such as the National League of Cities and the Hispanic Elected Local Officials Board. She previously served on Governor Locke’s Grassroots Early Learning Commission and the Washington State Department of Transportation Safety Committee.
