Auburn Food Bank seeks community support amid increased demand

The Auburn Food Bank – which recently moved into a new facility – is appealing to the community for support as it faces unprecedented expenses and a surge in client numbers.

Despite anticipating higher operational costs, the food bank has been hit hard by a significant reduction in grant funding, which is now tighter than ever. With summer in full swing and children out of school, the demand for food has risen, with client numbers increasing by 23% each month.

“We need your support now more than ever,” Executive Director Debbie Christian said. “Our client numbers have increased by 23% each month. Our giving isn’t keeping up the pace! Summer is here and kids are home – moms need to come in more often to keep them fed.”

Last week, a new family volunteering at the food bank noticed a shortage of canned meat. In response, they posted on Facebook, urging friends to contribute to a large purchase of tuna and chicken.

“I’m here standing in the gap to see that all 162 families a day have enough – asking you to help,” Christian added.

How to Help

The food bank is reaching out to the community for donations to ensure all 162 families served daily have enough food.
