Auburn Parks & Rec Updates as King and Pierce Counties Move Forward in Safe Start Phases

Both King County and Pierce County announced their advancement in Safe Start phases Friday.  King County is now in a modified Phase 1.5.  Pierce County is in Phase 2.  The move forward for both counties means the City of Auburn will see businesses and facilities open, if in a limited capacity.  This includes the Auburn Parks and Recs facilities.

King County’s modified Phase 1, and Pierce County’s Phase 2 now permits the following for outdoor recreation and fitness:

Outdoor recreation All activities may operate subject to Phase 2 guidance, part one, two and three.
Fitness All outdoor activities may operate subject to Phase 2 guidance, which limits the occupants to no more than five people outside of a household (excluding the instructor). Indoor fitness studios may operate subject to Phase 2 guidance but is limited to one on one activities only.

The City of Auburn has announced it will “[continue] to take steps to limit the spread of the disease and are taking proactive measures to protect the health and safety of the Auburn community.”

An email sharing the current parks and recreation openings and availabilities was sent Sunday:

  • Parks and Trails where social distancing can be maintained remain open.
  • Additionally, the Auburn Golf Course and Game Farm Wilderness Disc Golf are open.
  • With the recent approval of King County’s Modified Phase 1 opening; Tennis & Pickleball Courts are open (allowed with 5 or fewer people outside of your household).
  • You are encouraged to only participate in other outdoor activities with people in your immediate household (not extended families). Do outdoor activities close by your home. If you encounter others, maintain a minimum of 6-feet distance.
  • Please note that all auburn park playgrounds & other active recreation areas continue to be closed. This includes playground equipment, baseball fields, mod-soccer fields, skate parks, and picnic shelters. All recreation areas where it could be difficult to maintain recommended social distancing guidelines.
  • Outdoor restrooms are closed. Park users are encouraged to go before you go to a park.

Here are the posted guidelines for use of Auburn Parks and Trails. Park users are encouraged to follow these recommendations:

•           DO NOT visit public spaces if you have symptoms or are not feeling well.

•           Follow CDC’s guidance on personal hygiene prior to heading to parks and trails — wash hands, carry hand sanitizer, do not visit public spaces if you have symptoms, cover your mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing, etc.

•           Observe at all times CDC’s minimum recommended social distancing of six feet from other people. Practice it and know what it looks like. Keep it as you walk, run or bike. CDC also recommends use of a cloth mask that covers your nose and face.

•           Bring a suitable trash bag. Leave no trash, take everything out to protect park workers.
