The King County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO) is warning residents that scammers continue to pose as deputies by phone and text in attempts to obtain money or personal information.

In a public notice released this week, KCSO reminded community members that legitimate law enforcement officers will never request payment or sensitive personal information through unsolicited calls or text messages.

Officials also urged residents not to click on suspicious links or share verification codes with unknown callers.

“If unsure, hang up and call your local non-emergency number,” the Sheriff’s Office advised. The local number for KCSO is 206-296-3311.

Authorities encouraged residents to share the warning with friends and family to help prevent additional victims.
