Rep. Drew Stokesbary Elected Chair of the Select Committee on Pension Policy

Rep. Drew Stokesbary, ranking Republican on the House Appropriations Committee and House Republican budget lead, has been elected chair of the Select Committee on Pension Policy (SCPP).

The SCPP studies issues and policies affecting the state’s public employee retirement systems and makes recommendations to the Legislature regarding changes. As the chief budget writer for the House Republican Caucus and a member of the SCPP since 2019, StokesbaryR-Auburn, says he is looking forward to serving as chair and continuing the important work of strengthening the state’s pension system.

“I’m honored by and excited for this opportunity to serve as chair of the Select Committee on Pension Policy,” said Stokesbary, who has developed a reputation as a leader on complex pension issues in the Legislature. “As chair, I look forward to bringing committee members together to develop innovative solutions that will not only advance sound pension policy and provide security for public employees, but will also ensure we’re being responsible stewards of taxpayer dollars.”

The SCPP has 20 members; two from each caucus in the Legislature, four current public employees, four current public employer representatives, two retired public employees, and the directors of the state Department of Retirement Systems and Office of Financial Management.

As chair of the full SCPP, Stokesbary will also chair the six-member executive committee.
