The City of Auburn invites you to a public outreach event to review and discuss the City’s draft revisions to the Hazard Mitigation Plan. The public meeting will be held in Council Chambers in City Hall on August 15th from 6:00 PM until 7:30 PM.

Why Auburn Shouldn’t Ignore Mt. Rainier

The City has participated in the King County Regional Hazard Mitigation Plan since 2004. This update is part of the regular updates as required by FEMA. The Auburn part of the plan identifies and evaluates the risks to natural disasters we face in Auburn. Once completed this fall, the mitigation plan will include strategies for reducing the impacts on our residents, businesses, infrastructure and other assets. We use the plan to prioritize our efforts to help make this a safer community for everyone. The mitigation plan also helps focus educational programs to teach our community how to be better prepared for a disaster.

We have completed the risk analysis portion of the revision and invite you to review the risks identified and provide feedback to City emergency managers and staff that are developing the plan. Once we have a rough draft of the completed Auburn plan, we’ll have another open meeting to review the plan and our mitigation strategies. It is important to the city, to be inclusive, and invite as much citizen review and input as possible.

You will have an opportunity to review maps showing hazard areas and consider the impacts to the community. Key staff members will be on hand to answer any questions and discuss the risks with you.  In addition to the meeting format, we expect to put materials on our website for review and comments.
