The City of Auburn is set to begin a significant Downtown Infrastructure Improvements Project this month, with construction kicking off at the B Street Plaza and a building demolition at 125 E Main Street, the former home of Hills of Comics.
Full road closures are scheduled to begin on June 2, impacting East Main Street between Auburn Avenue and B Street NE, and Auburn Avenue between East Main Street and 1st Street NE. The closures are expected to last through the end of August.
City officials emphasized that access to downtown businesses and residences will be maintained throughout the project.
“We’re committed to minimizing disruptions and ensuring continued support for our downtown businesses,” the City of Auburn stated in a release. “Dedicated parking and wayfinding signage will be available to help patrons navigate during construction.”
The improvements will include the replacement of aging water, sewer and stormwater utilities, reconstruction of roadways and sidewalks, enhanced pedestrian accessibility, and upgraded street lighting. The project also paves the way for future enhancements, including a planned performing arts theater.
Construction is scheduled to take place during daytime hours, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. No night work is currently planned.
More information, including maps and updates, is available on the City of Auburn’s website.
