The Auburn City Council this week appointed Lisa Stirgus to fill Council Position 6, a seat left vacant by the resignation of Councilmember Larry Brown earlier this year.
Stirgus was selected from a field of 45 applicants and was one of six candidates interviewed during a special City Council meeting on Monday.
“I’m incredibly excited to get to work,” Stirgus said following her appointment. “We on the city council have a unique duty to represent the residents of Auburn who have decided to call this city home, and it’s a responsibility I don’t take lightly. I’m ready to roll up my sleeves.”
Stirgus brings more than two decades of experience in financial services and nonprofit leadership. She serves on the Green River College Foundation Board and co-chairs the Youth Justice Subcommittee of the King County Children and Youth Advisory Board.
She will vacate her position on the Auburn Independent Salary Commission upon being sworn in.
Mayor Nancy Backus praised the appointment, saying:
“Councilmember-elect Stirgus brings with her decades of experience in transformational leadership, youth development and education, and financial empowerment, and I know she’ll represent our residents with pride and care.”
Originally from Reno, Nevada, Stirgus and her husband Richard moved to Washington in 2013, settling in Auburn in 2018. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Psychology with a focus on Human Motivation and Performance.
Outside of work, Stirgus is a proud wife, mom, and “dog mama and nona” who loves spending time with her family and friends – and spoiling her two puppies and grand-pups. She’s incredibly proud of their daughter, a newly licensed PA-C working in Tacoma’s emergency departments.
As an Italian, the kitchen is Stirgus’ happy place, especially when cooking homemade meals, enjoying great wine, and gathering loved ones around the table. She and her husband just started learning billiards and recently joined a local league for fun. She loves watching basketball and anxiously awaits a professional team in Washington state to cheer on.
Deputy Mayor Cheryl Rakes added, “Lisa’s experience in financial services will greatly benefit our council and our city” as Auburn undertakes multiple revitalization and economic development projects.
Stirgus will be sworn in at 5:30 p.m. Monday in Council Chambers at Auburn City Hall.
