ASD School Board Recognize November’s Student and Staff Member of the Month

On November 9 the Auburn School District Board of Directors recognized Lory Ball as November’s Outstanding Staff Member of the Month and Brielle Parks as the Outstanding Student of the Month. Ball is the kitchen manager at Auburn High School. Parks is a third-grade student at Evergreen Heights Elementary.

Ball has worked for the ASD since 2003. She worked in the kitchens at Evergreen Heights, Hazelwood, and Cascade before coming to Auburn High as the kitchen manager in 2009. Numerous kids she supported at Evergreen Heights as kindergarten students graduated last year from Auburn High.

Ball works very closely with culinary arts teacher Marci Killian.  She enjoys working with the students in the culinary arts program. Students who participate in the program can go straight into positions at most restaurants.

According to Marci, “Mrs. Ball is the most dedicated, amazing staff member.  She works many hours beyond her normal day and goes out of her way to make sure all are fed.”

In addition to her job as kitchen manager, she spends her summers working in the summer feeding program to support all local children.

Originally from Bellevue, she and her husband of 30 years, Rick, have lived in Auburn for almost 30 years. Her four children are all Auburn High School graduates.  Her son Ryan is a teacher at Auburn Mountainview.

In her off time, Ball enjoys hiking, spending time with her dogs, and spending time with her children who all live locally.

Brielle Parks
Outstanding  Student of the Month, November

Principal Tonni Vu describes Parks as a determined student and a leader.

Parks’s current teacher, Mrs. Parks, said she shows determination in her work. Parks takes feedback well, making quick corrections in her work.  She is full of spunk and participates in school each day with a big smile on her face and an upbeat attitude.

Parks’s dedication to gymnastics carries over to her schoolwork. She is a state-level gymnastics competitor.  COVID has impacted her gymnastic goals because her gym is closed and she can’t practice with her teammates. Luckily, she has a gym at home and her mom is coaching her. Despite the school and gym closure, Parks is happy and moving forward representing third grade on ASB.
