In April the Auburn School District Board of Directors named West Auburn High School office manager Lila Jenkins outstanding staff member of the month. The board recognized Majak Mabil, a fifth-grade student at Evergreen Heights Elementary, as the April outstanding student of the month. At the May 14th School Board meeting, Lea Hill Elementary teacher Kim Foss will be awarded the May, outstanding staff member of the month. Robert Soimis Cone, also of Lea Hill Elementary, will also be recognized at Monday’s meeting. He will receive the outstanding student of the month.
Jenkins has a long history with the ASD. Growing up in the district, she attended Evergreen Heights, Lake View and when it opened, Cascade. The day after graduating from Auburn High Jenkins joined the ASD as a student helper.
After substituting for three years, Jenkins entered a permanent position as an office assistant at Auburn High. Four years later, she moved to West Auburn as attendance secretary. Having since been promoted, Jenkins has been the West Auburn office manager for 14 years. According to the ASD press-release, “as office manager, Jenkins does bookkeeping, substitutes, payroll, building uses, helps organize graduation and anything else to help keep the building running smoothly.”
“I love the kids at West Auburn. Some of them are there for five years. You really get to know them as a person,” Jenkins said.
Mabil received recognition as the outstanding student of the month due to his excellent leadership in and out of the classroom. According to the ASD press release, he “strives to make everyone feel included and considers other’s feelings.”
With a passion for learning, Mabil often takes time to do extra work to advance his knowledge. His favorite subjects are math, science and P.E. When not at school, he enjoys soccer and basketball.
Foss has spent her entire 28-year teaching career at Lea Hill Elementary. In all but one of those years, she has occupied room 305.
Going above and beyond her duties in the classroom, Foss founded the Lea Hill Robotics Club, organizes the Lea Hill Car Show, advised ASB for many years, and coordinates open gym nights and family craft nights.
Robert Soimis Cone
The outstanding student of the month award recognizes Soimis Cone’s responsibility and respectfulness. His readiness to work does not go unnoticed by teachers and staff. Soimis Cone is also always willing to volunteer with the Green Team and takes the recycling and composting seriously.
Outside of school, he plays football, basketball, and baseball. Soimis Cone also enjoys spending time with his family.
