An Auburn Police officer has been placed on administrative leave pending a full investigation into an Oct. 28 altercation on Auburn Way North that sent the officer and a man to hospitals for evaluation, according to the Auburn Police Department.
Police said officers were dispatched around 3:15 p.m. Wednesday after reports that a man was reportedly running in and out of traffic and attempting to enter passing vehicles.
The first officer to arrive used a Taser after the man refused to follow commands, according to the department. Police said a physical struggle began as the officer tried to handcuff him.
Additional officers arrived, and the department said it took four officers to bring the man under control and place him in handcuffs. Police said he continued to scream and resist while handcuffed. Fire personnel were called to help calm him.
The man did not appear to have serious injuries but was taken to a local hospital for further evaluation, according to police.
The officer was also taken to a hospital for evaluation.
The department said the incident remains under review.
