The City of Auburn is now accepting registrations for its free spring/summer Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training course, a 24-hour program designed to equip residents with life-saving disaster preparedness skills.
Classes begin May 13, 2025, and will be held Tuesday evenings from 6 to 9 p.m., with two additional Saturday morning sessions focused on hands-on drills and practical exercises.
The training covers essential emergency response topics including fire safety, light search and rescue, disaster medical operations, utility control, and even disaster psychology.
“Want to be the calm in the chaos? The hero with a go-bag? The person who actually knows how to turn off the gas? This one’s for you,” the city’s promotional announcement reads.
CERT training is geared toward empowering everyday citizens to help themselves and their neighbors during emergencies before professional responders arrive.
