The Washington State Patrol (WSP) is reporting that a multi-vehicle, hit & run collision blocked SR 18 just west of SR 167 in Auburn on Saturday, Mar. 16, 2024.
The collision involved seven motorcycles and three cars, WSP said.
Troopers said that it all started when one vehicle slowing for traffic got rear-ended by another vehicle.
Subsequently, 9 motorcycles became involved in the pileup.
Three motorcycle riders were transported to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle with non life-threatening injuries.
Troopers describe the huge, complex collision thusly:
- Vehicles 1, 2, and 3 were traveling eastbound on SR 18 just west of SR 167 in lanes 1 of 2.
- Vehicles 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10 were traveling in lane 2.
- Vehicle 1 struck Vehicle 2.
- Vehicle 2 struck Vehicle 3 and veered left into Vehicles 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10.
- Vehicle 1 came to rest on the right shoulder
- Vehicle 2 came to rest on the left shoulder.
- Vehicle 3 fled the scene.
- Vehicle 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10 came to rest fully blocking the roadway.
The roadway was blocked for 4-hours and 7-minutes.
