The King County Medical Examiner’s Office on Wednesday, July 2 identified the victim killed in Monday’s two-car crash on A Street SE in Auburn as Jean A. McLaughlin, 64, of Auburn.
As we previously reported, the tragic, fatal collision occurred around 12:20 p.m. on June 30 at the intersection of A Street SE and 17th Street SE, prompting a full closure of the roadway for several hours while Auburn Police investigated.
Coroners said that McLaughlin died from multiple blunt force injuries, and was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to Auburn Police, a 28-year-old female driver ran a red light while heading northbound on A Street SE and struck McLaughlin’s vehicle as it turned left onto the roadway.
Police say speed was a factor in the crash.
The other driver sustained minor injuries and was transported to the hospital.
No charges have yet been filed, and the case remains under investigation by the Auburn Police Department’s traffic unit.
McLaughlin’s death marks a tragic outcome to what witnesses described as a chaotic scene in broad daylight.
Police have not released further details regarding potential impairment or distractions, but confirmed that surveillance footage and witness statements are being reviewed.
