Stacy Johnson has been named the Auburn Area Chamber of Commerce 2020 SPOTLIGHT Woman Leader of the Year. The SPOTLIGHT Woman of the Year Award recognizes a woman business leader who has attained outstanding business achievement and exemplifies the significant contributions made by women leaders in the Auburn Area.
Recognizing Stacy Johnson is the President of Auburn Mechanical, a local mechanical contracting company that has served the Auburn Area since 1975. Stacy has worked at Auburn Mechanical since 1976 in a variety of positions, beginning as a young woman driving trucks for the company.
In 2008, after working for many years as a Project Manager, Stacy purchased Auburn Mechanical, making it one of a few women-owned construction firms in the mechanical construction industry. Since purchasing the company, she has grown its business from $33 million in 2008 to a projected $100 million in 2021. Stacy has also significantly expanded the type of services offered by the company.
However, based on the statement submitted alongside her nomination, Stacy’s success can be measured in ways extending far beyond her business achievements:
“Stacy believes in the power of community, the support of family, and the obligation to give back. The success of Auburn Mechanical is one important mechanism for supporting her passions. The results of her efforts are why I believe she should be recognized as Woman Business Leader of the Year.”
Those efforts referenced in the nomination statement include:
Mentoring other women professional: Stacy leads by example and continues to pave the way for other women in her field. She is the first female President of the Mechanical Contractors Association of Western Washington and sponsors emerging leaders through the Commercial Real Estate Women (CREW) Seattle Development Series. Under her leadership at Auburn Mechanical, female employment has increased by 6%, and women now make up 37% of the executive leadership team. Beyond her support for female professionals, Stacy is committed to increasing the diversity of her workforce at Auburn Mechanical so that the company reflects the diversity we see in our community.
Supporting local charitable organizations: Stacy personally spearheads the community giving program at Auburn Mechanical. Recent giving efforts have supported the Auburn Food Bank and Auburn Youth Services. Since 2008, when Stacy purchased the company, Auburn Mechanical has donated nearly half a million dollars to local charities. In addition, over the past three years, Auburn Mechanical employees have joined together to walk over 500 miles at an annual fundraiser walk supporting the American Heart Association and raised over $135,000.
In addition, as a business leader, Stacy has earned the respect and trust of her employees, especially in the face of the COVID-19 crisis. As shared in the nomination statement:
“A family-owned and operated business from day one, Stacy juggles the logistics of staying connected to her growing team. Before the COVID-19 pandemic, Auburn Mechanical employees enjoyed regularly scheduled social activities, including happy hours, ping-pong tournaments, costume parties, and the annual turkey fry. When the company started working remotely, Stacy took care of employees in the most important way — by ensuring they had paid healthcare while on temporary furlough and communicating one-on-one to listen to concerns and help meet their needs. Time and time again, Stacy goes beyond what is expected for her Auburn Mechanical family.”
Congratulations to Stacy Johnson, and thank you for your leadership, professionalism, and commitment to supporting Auburn Area charities and to mentoring rising female leaders in your industry.
