The King County Flood Control Board on Wednesday passed a budget that includes $300,000 for the Butte Avenue Flood Mitigation Project. The project will reduce the flood risk to approximately 500 residences and businesses in the cities of Pacific and Algona by addressing backwatering and drainage problems in the Government Canal from high river flows. Upon completion, the project will also reduce long-term road closures that have occurred in the past due to flooding.

“With the rainy season approaching, I am pleased we were able to appropriate these much-needed funds for such an important project in our region,” said Supervisor Pete von Reichbauer, who represents Pacific and Algona on the King County Council. “From day one, our goal has been to protect the citizens and businesses who live and do business along the river and I commend Mayor Guier for her advocacy and the Flood Control Board for its funding.”

“I truly appreciate the relationship between the City of Pacific and the King County Flood Control District,” said Pacific Mayor Leanne Guier. “Councilmember von Reichbauer has been very supportive and instrumental in seeing this project completed. Having this project funded is extremely important to our community.”
