Auburn Police continue to warn residents about reports of fraudulent locksmith stickers being placed on doors as part of an ongoing scam.
According to a public safety alert, scammers are allegedly removing legitimate locksmith stickers and contact information and replacing them with fake ones. When residents call the number listed on the fraudulent sticker, the individuals may pose as legitimate locksmiths.
Authorities warn that in some cases, this could allow scammers to make copies of keys under the guise of providing service, which could later be used to commit a burglary.
Police said similar scams have been reported in other parts of the country. Information remains limited, but officials are sharing the notice so residents can remain vigilant.
Residents are advised to be cautious of unfamiliar locksmith stickers on doors, use a locksmith they trust or contact directly, and report suspicious activity or questionable stickers to local authorities.
