VRFA, press release, valley regional fire authorityIn early September, Captain Joel Toline, and Firefighters Kyle Fisher and Will Highley responded to an automatic fire alarm at an apartment building in Auburn. After initial size-up, they reported heavy black smoke and quickly upgraded the alarm to a commercial fire response.

FF Fisher pulled a hose line to the front door as Captain Toline and FF Highley prepared to enter the fire unit. Once inside, FF Highley extinguished the fire in the residence. He then noticed a distressed older adult female standing in the dining room area next to the kitchen counter. Captain Toline and FF Highley pulled her away from the counter and carried her outside where FF Fisher took over patient care. Captain Toline and FF Toline returned inside the apartment to complete fire attack and a primary search.

The patient suffered smoke inhalation, requiring an evaluation by King County Medic One. She was then transported to Multicare Auburn Medical Center for further treatment.

Due to Captain Toline, FF Fisher, and FF Highley’s quick, life-saving actions, the patient suffered no serious injuries from the fire and made a full recovery. The fire was confined to the room of origin, and property damage was limited.

Please join us in recognizing their highly-skilled efforts and performance. Congratulations Captain Toline, FF Fisher and FF Highley!
